I extend
my sincere congratulations to Dicki Chhoyang la and Norbu Tsering la for being
elected the North America Chithues in the 15th Tibetan Parliament, as
announced by the Central Tibetan Election Commission on April 27th
2011. I wish them both every success in
fulfilling their new important responsibilities.
I have every confidence that the Chithue-elects will sincerely and wholeheartedly
work to represent the Tibetans of North America in advancing the Tibetan cause
and the wellbeing of the Tibetan people. Nonetheless, as I have repeatedly said before,
the responsibility of the voting community does not end at the ballot box. Now, we the Tibetans of North America, must closely
follow our Chithues, ensuring that they live up to their promises and most
importantly, that their actions are impartial, serving the interests and
aspirations of all Tibetans, rather than any subsection of our society.
At the
same time, we must ensure we remain active in engaging with our Chithues,
sharing our ideas and views with them, helping them to serve our people and our
cause. With the recent decision by His Holiness the Dalai Lama regarding the
devolvement of his political authority, it is now particularly critical that through
our Chithues, we the Tibetans of North America, remain an active voice speaking
for unity over division and advancement over stagnation, serving His Holiness's
vision for the Tibetan people.
I
would like to thank my family, relatives, friends, schoolmates, supporters and especially
my core campaign team in New York for all the effort and time they gave to my
campaign and for the unwavering trust they showed in me. I believe that through our collective efforts,
we have been able to make a significant contribution to the vibrancy and
strength of our democracy through the campaign. Finally, I would like to once
again wholeheartedly thank my supporters across North America. I request all of
you to now direct your support towards our newly-elected Chithues and help them
succeed in their new roles.
As
promised throughout my campaign, irrespective of the outcome of the Chithue
elections, I will continue work for the Tibetan people and cause, fulfilling my
responsibility as a Tibetan.
